Malá Skála (Little Rock)

There are few places with such beautiful scenery, and if
Mala Skala is called the Pearl of Bohemian Paradise, it is completely rightly so. The Pantheon and
the Suche Skaly (Dry Rocks) rock formations and the Jizera river, which goes along the E 65 road (Prague - Turnov - Harrachov) as well as the railway line down the north - to - east valley, are the characteristic features. A system of color - marked hiking routes will take you to all directions of the close vicinity and further. As a random pick,
the Vranov castle ruins with a bower and a vista in the Pantheon's rock cliff or
the Frydstejn castle ruins, the Kalich and Chleviste (Chalice and Livestock Sheds) or Drabovna (Catchpole House) rock mazes can be suggested. The destinations mentioned are ideal for hiking trips of different physical demand levels. The scenic valley has become a sought - after resort and recreation centre with an ever more all - year - round operation. The following choice is striving for your sporting spirit:
four tennis courts,
two volleyball courts,
rock - climbing (the Suche Skaly) and the Hruba Skala (Rough Rock), hiking, cycling and canoeing. There is also a river lido with a boat and mountain bike rental at the Jizera. In winter time it is possible to make use of the cross - country skiing routes or ski lift in Mala Skala or to visit the well known winter sport centres of
Jested (24km away),
Bedrichov (26km) or
Harrachov (38km). There is an indoor swimming pool in
Jablonec nad Nisou (14 km).
